Lakewood man gets 25 years in state prison for fatal stabbing

A 33-year-old Lakewood man has been sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey state prison for a fatal stabbing, authorities said.

Jorge Santiago-Garcia was sentenced based on his previously entered guilty plea to manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of Rodrigo Jimenez-Paz in Lakewood Township on August 31, 2020.

On August 31, 2020, Lakewood Police were called to a business on 2nd Avenue in Lakewood in response to multiple 911 calls indicating an individual had been stabbed at the location. Officers found Jimenez-Paz, 29, of Lakewood with a stab wound to the chest, according to Ocean County District Attorney Bradley D. Billhimer.

Medical units took Jimenez-Paz to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune; rescue efforts failed and he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation by the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit, and the Lakewood Police Department identified Santiago-Garcia as the individual who stabbed Jimenez-Paz, Billhimer said.

Santiago-Garcia has been arrested and held in Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
