| A Windy Day outside Bowles, the printseller, in St Paul's Churchyard by Robert Dighton MARINE PRINT NAMESSome effort may eventually be made here to build up information on the 18th century marine print scene. Apart from anything culled from the prints themselves, books used may include Timothy Clayton's The English Print 1688-1802, Yale 1997; James Taylor's comments on 18th Century Maritime Painters, Printmakers and Publishers in David Joel's book Charles Brooking, 2001; Ian Mackenzie's British Prints, and others too few to mention. Not much seems to be written about marine prints, a lesser genre. Progress will be extremely s-l-o-w. |
