The lack of drawings by Monamy is worth remarking. It somewhat parallels the rarity of drawings by Hogarth, noted by A.P.Oppé: "It is idle to speculate about the possible loss or destruction of Hogarth's drawings. He himself has explained why they are so few. ..... he tells us that he drew so little from nature, and maintained that it was so little necessary ..... he regarded drawing from nature as scarcely distinguishable from copying the work of other men."
