Bute's Marine Collection Sale Prices Price Analysis Since the paintings can't be identified, this analysis doesn't mean much. Still, it shows that on March 19th 1796 Brooking's stock stood well above Monamy or Scott. Almost within three weeks of the sale, Laurie & Whittle had trimmed the name off their plate of an engraving after Monamy, inserted the name of Brooking, and published it, on 12th April. The unevenness of the paintings attributed to Monamy is also apparent, since the prices range from the lowest, at £1-11-6, reaching up to 7 guineas, which is well above the £5-15-6 highest price for a Scott. |
